Faye Tozer, 43, reached the final of Strictly Come Dancing with her professional partner Giovanni Pernice, 28, last year. The Steps star, who has been married to husband Michael Smith for almost 10 years, said she was aware their relationship would come under scrutiny when she signed up to the show. Recalling how she and her husband had approached the inevitable Strictly ‘curse’ speculation, she told Express.co.uk: “We all sat down as a family and said, ‘There’s going to be lots of rumours or people trying to find stories but as long as we stand strong as a family unit, we’ll all be good.’ We tried to just focus on the job and not focus on gossip.”
Faye and Michael are parents to 10-year-old son Benjamin.
The popstar went on to gush about how supportive her husband had been of her Strictly journey, saying: “He was with me every single Saturday.
“He came down from Newcastle every weekend to support me. I think he was the only other half that did that,” she continued.
“I feel so incredibly proud that he did.
“I’m so, so fortunate to have such a supportive husband,” Faye added.
During her stint on Strictly last year, Faye admitted she would probably be jealous if Michael was in her position on the show.
“I sometimes even get jealous of his hairdresser,” she told The Sun.
“But I think that’s a healthy thing though, isn’t it? Because if you didn’t feel that for your other half then you wouldn’t care.
“It’s important to want each other and have that for each other,” she added.
In the midst of her Strictly run with Giovanni, the pair were pictured enjoying lunch together, with the Italian dancer leaning over to brush food away from the side of her mouth in the cosy snaps.
Demonstrating their solid relationship, however, Michael and Faye laughed off any speculation that her partnership with Giovanni was anything more than platonic.
Making light of rumours, Michael shared a hilarious picture of himself with food in the corner of his mouth with his 1,900 Instagram followers, joking: “Where’s @pernicegiovann1 when you need him? Help me out @fayetozersmith.”
In reality, Michael and Giovanni became good friends while the latter was paired with Faye.
She and Giovanni impressed both the judges and the viewers at home in order to make it to the final, but were pipped to the post by Stacey Dooley, 32, and Kevin Clifton, 36, who won the Glitterball trophy.
Elsewhere, Faye is currently playing Miss Hedge in West End musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Speaking about the role, she said: “It’s a great acting piece for me. I’m playing a little bit of a baddie and she’s great fun to play.
“It’s really nice to do something a bit different and out of the norm.”
Strictly Come Dancing 2019 will air on the BBC later this summer.
